Suggestions for Conducting the Race
(Note: From the Georgia Men's Ministry Handbook)

Committees are to be chosen prior to each race. If for some reason a person cannot attend, a replacement will be selected by the RA Racer Derby Committee at the time of the race. When sponsoring a church, associational, regional, or state RA Racer Derby the following personnel and committees are recommended:

Finish Line judges: Three adults will be chosen to be used at the finish line to determine the winner of each race, unless an electronic finish line is used. All three have to agree on the winner. In the event the judges cannot determine a winner, the participants re-draw for lanes and race again.

Two Adult Starters: After the participants place their cars on the lanes, one starter will adjust the cars so they will be clear of the guides and get a clean start. He will then trip the starting lever. The other starter will handle the lane drawing for the next race.

Two Score Keepers Will Be Responsible For:

A. Keeping an accurate record of the race as it progresses;

B. Calling each participant's name or number prior to the race as well as the next two participants who will be "on deck" and drawing for lanes;

C. Keeping the spectators informed as to the progress of the race (for example, a black board, large poster board, overhead projector, etc.).

Inspection and Weighing Committee Will Consist of Three Adults: Their responsibilities are to:

A. Weigh cars prior to registration allowing the participants to make minor adjustments to weight if necessary;

B. Check the cars using the guideline of the racing Royal Ambassador Racers specifications. The car will then be placed on a table and not be touched until the paticipant's name is called for his race, except for the judging of the best design award.

Best Design judges: Four adults select the car that shows the best design. This includes design, painting, and workmanship. First, second, and third place trophies will be awarded for each age group. Each car should be judged on it's own merit regardless who the judges think may have done the work.

Registration Committee Will Consist of Two Adults: They are to register each participant and make sure the fee is paid.

RA Racers Committee

A. Responsible for sending out information concerning the schedule of the Dcrby.
B. Selecting the personnel serving as starters, judges, etc.
C. Getting and setting up a track
D. The overall running of the Derby
E. Make necessary interpretation of rules, and judgements not covered by the rules.

Elimination Procedure:
The process of determining a winner will be by a repeated double elimination tournament. Each car must lose twice before it is eliminated. A true 1st and 2nd place can be determined this way.

If the last car in the winners bracket defeats the last car in the losers, he is the champion. If the last car in the losers bracket defeats the last car in the winners bracket, the two cars must race again since each will have only one less.

The cars will race two at a time. The finish line judges will determine the winner in each race. The winner will advance to the next heat in the bracket being run. The loser will move to the losers bracket. After a car loses in the losers bracket it will be eliminated from competition.

Building plans for both car and track are included in each individual car kit.
