Missionary Commissioning
Mission activities are not just programs. They are to be a part of an evangelistic lifestyle. The content in KidzPlace.org is designed to help you develop children into hometown missionaries. As a part of this process, consider creating a missionary commissioning service for the children in your church.
As part of the commissioning, remind and encourage children that wherever they go, they are to be a physical example of Jesus. They should be fair and honest in all they do and always tell the truth. They should be children who can be trusted and depended on at all times.
Times to schedule this could be after groups of children complete a special training, such as a new member’s class or an age-appropriate evangelism/outreach training. Gather these children in a large group session, preferably during a Sunday morning or evening service. Recognize them before their parents and other adults and have someone pray for the group and challenge them as missionaries.
This challenge/celebration/commissioning could be more effective if planned before the beginning of a new year at school or as they are preparing for summer activities. Another idea would be to commission the parents along with the children, thereby making the commissioning a family service.
