I’ll Go!
What does “24/7” mean?
a) A math problem
b) The name of a candy bar
c) 24 hours a day, 7 days a week
d) A kind of car
Some restaurants and gas stations advertise that they are open “24/7.” That means that they are open 24 hours a day, 7 days a week or, in other words, they never close. So, if you thought the answer was “c”, you are right!
Our God is 24/7, isn’t he? He never closes His ears to our prayers or puts up a “Be back soon” sign, does He? We should live our lives the same way. We should never shut God out of our lives. Our relationship with Him should be 24/7.
God tells us in the Bible to share His love with others. Perhaps you are already a Christian, or a follower of Christ, and you are happily telling your friends, family, and others about Him. Perhaps you are still wondering what God’s love means. If you are still wondering, visit the “Show and Tell” feature on this Web site to learn more.
Me a Missionary?
Did you know that being a Christian makes you a missionary? In the Bible, Jesus told us to be His witnesses all over the world. A witness is someone who has seen or heard something happen. They can then tell others about that. Because Christians have seen God’s love in their lives, they can tell others about that love.
A missionary is someone “sent” to tell others something. So, if you are a Christian, Jesus has “sent” you to be a witness of His to everyone. You don’t have to go far away or learn another language or even eat strange things. You can be a missionary anytime and any place: your home, church, school, neighborhood, community, state, nation, and world!
What are some ways you are a missionary now? Do you:
● Tell your friends you are a Christian?
● Act the way Jesus would act toward your classmates?
● Help in church mission activities?
● Pray for your friends who don’t know Jesus?
● Invite people to church?
● Give money to missions?
What are some other ways you can be a missionary?
Maybe you already know God wants you to be a career missionary "when you grow up." How do you prepare? Here's some suggestions:
● Pray for God to continue to show you that being a career missionary is His plan for your life.
● Talk with your parents, pastor, and other Christian adults about your thoughts and plans.
● Write to the North American Mission Board and the International Mission Board and request information on age and education requirements and opportunities for pre-career mission experiences. There are opportunities for students to serve as missionaries starting in high school.
● Remember that you are a missionary right now—so take every opportunity to share your faith with others and participate in mission projects with your church that will give you a good understanding on what it means to be a missionary.
● When you have opportunities to meet Southern Baptist missionaries, ask questions about their experiences and their own call to missionary service. Ask for their advice on how to best prepare.
